Today is no different from the other days they've met. The kitchen has food spread out on the table - a mix of root vegetables, cabbage, and a skinned rabbit Katniss had killed earlier in the day. She's ready to start the stew whenever Eleanor arrives.
Hopefully, she'll be okay with the butchering of the animal Katniss still needs to do.]
[Action, November 17th]
[She knocks before she comes inside, and offers Katniss a somewhat tentative smile as she looks around.]
Hello Katniss. I hope I'm not late.
[Action, November 17th]
Life had been too peaceful lately, too easy. It only seemed like a matter of time before the odds turned away from her favor. Before life became bleak again.]
You're not late. [She holds up the skinned rabbit and offers a tentative smile of her own.] Have you ever had rabbit?
[Action, November 17th]
I...ah.
[A breath.]
I've only ever even seen a bun...rabbit once before. And it was alive. And...fluffy.
[Action, November 17th]
But she looks a little embarrassed by the girl's reaction. Maybe she should have butchered the animal already. At least the head was already off.]
It tastes good.
[Action, November 17th]
[She hesitates again before approaching tentatively, eying the skinned animal.]
Sorry, I...we didn't have animals in Rapture. Well, besides Fish. There had been cats when I was small but. [A beat.] I'm still adjusting to all of this.
[Action, November 17th]
Oh. [She pauses and shrugs sheepishly.] If you want, you could come back when it's butchered.
[Action, November 17th]
No, that's...that's fine. I have to get over this eventually, I imagine.
[And...she walks over. Tentatively. And eyes the poor dead animal.]
[Action, November 17th]
They lack for practically nothing. Maybe it's better this way. Keep the people occupied with breads and circuses. It had worked for the Capitol for nearly 75 years.] You can get yours there.
[Action, November 17th]
Ah... I'll still stay. [She did so want to impress Katniss, for some reason.]
[Action, November 17th]
That sort of quality can be far too rare. No wonder Panem ended up like it did.
She nods in the direction of the vegetables on the table, picking up her knife and rabbit and moving closer to the sink.]
You can cut the vegetables.
[Action, November 17th]
[Eleanor picks up a knife as well and moves to the vegetables. This part she has actually gotten pretty good at, apparently any task that involves breaking or cutting something she can manage well enough. At least until-]
Ow!
[Aaaand now there is blood on the cutting board and she is sucking on one of her fingers. Whoops.]
