[It's become something of a regular thing for them. The girl coming over every now and then for cooking lessons, sometimes staying for meals, sometimes not. She's found it fun, reminiscent of when she first taught Prim how to cook all those years ago. Sometimes, their mother could be counted on to actually prepare a meal. Most of the time though? It had been them. Only them.

Today is no different from the other days they've met. The kitchen has food spread out on the table - a mix of root vegetables, cabbage, and a skinned rabbit Katniss had killed earlier in the day. She's ready to start the stew whenever Eleanor arrives.

Hopefully, she'll be okay with the butchering of the animal Katniss still needs to do.]

[She had heard the knock on the door, the sound traveling through the living room to where she stood by the small table in the kitchen. She turns her head quickly, relaxing when she recognizes Eleanor's thin stature enter the room. But then again, someone out to harm her wouldn't knock. And within the kitchen, she wasn't exactly defenseless.

Life had been too peaceful lately, too easy. It only seemed like a matter of time before the odds turned away from her favor. Before life became bleak again.]

You're not late. [She holds up the skinned rabbit and offers a tentative smile of her own.] Have you ever had rabbit?

[Food has to come from somewhere. Meat especially. She never really understood people who were squeamish about meat. Even Prim, for all she can be so peaceful and tenderhearted, understands where the meat she eats come from.

But she looks a little embarrassed by the girl's reaction. Maybe she should have butchered the animal already. At least the head was already off.]

It tastes good.

[Katniss grimaces and carefully places the rabbit back on the table. She probably should have butchered it before Eleanor came over. Made the animal unrecognizable as anything but meat. It might have been easier for the girl that way.]

Oh. [She pauses and shrugs sheepishly.] If you want, you could come back when it's butchered.

Meat comes packaged in the store. [She doesn't really like buying that meat even if she has on occasion. Back home in District 12, meat always came from either the butcher shop or the woods. It still amazes her how plentiful the shelves in the market here always seem to be.

They lack for practically nothing. Maybe it's better this way. Keep the people occupied with breads and circuses. It had worked for the Capitol for nearly 75 years.]
You can get yours there.

[Her lips flickered into a brief grin. She could respect that sort of bravery in a person. The carcass clearly made the girl uncomfortable. And yet, she doesn't accept the out that Katniss offers. Most people would. People like Effie.

That sort of quality can be far too rare. No wonder Panem ended up like it did.

She nods in the direction of the vegetables on the table, picking up her knife and rabbit and moving closer to the sink.]

You can cut the vegetables.
