Appointment Post

This post here is for personal conversations which should happen but one or both of us doesn't want to put up a new post/log and thus we will just thread it out here. This can be used to thread with Saleh anytime and anywhere. This can either be in person (with action), or via the journal's call feature (voice and/or written).

[Eleanor's eyes narrow, studying the woman. She's far too slow to trust for this place, and she knows it, but it's so hard to think that everyone isn't secretly out to get her. Still, after a moment, she relaxes...at least a little.]

[Her arm is brought away from her side as she looks down at it, wincing. She hadn't meant to hold the fire that long. The lighter burns are already starting to heal over slowly, but the blisters are taking longer, and the sores are still...oozing.]

I...it will be fine in a little while.

[And she'd already bled on her shirt. Damn it. Okay. A distraction. Something to focus on away from the pain...]

How did you create ice like that? You're not a splicer.

[Nel lets out the tiny breath she'd been holding in as the girl relaxes. She can see that some of the wounds are healing, and it's amazing to her that she can't see any kind of Runology in play for the recreation of skin and things to take place. However, she can't stand to see the girl to be in pain for any time longer than she has to be.

Without thinking, she begins to cast the healing rune, happy to see the blisters disappear and the skin repair itself almost immediately.]

I don't know what a splicer is, but I'm a Runologist. On my planet, the tattoos I wear allow me to reach out for the power to use the basic elements around me and to heal certain physical ailments.

[Eleanor's eyes go wide again but she doesn't flinch away this time, staring at her hands as the burns heal much faster than usual. She flexes her fingers slowly, her expression...thoughful.]

It doesn't even ache. We...there's no such thing as a plasmid that can do that. [She frowns. This is all taking so much getting used to.]

I've never heard of Runology. It's more magic, isn't it.

[She's not really coming to terms with magic well.]

[Magic? She was so tired of hearing that nonsensical word.]

No, it's no more magic than the way the journals work. It's....technology. We tap into the natural resources in our galaxy and use them.

[She's no mage. She's a NINJA SPY, dammit! (With a little magic thrown in for fun!)]

[Eleanor actually looks a little relieved at that.]

People keep claiming everything here is magic, which is ludicrous. [A beat.]

Sorry. I just assumed.

Assuming is probably not the smartest thing here, but I can see why you'd think that with all of the strange things going on around here. [Nel watches her carefully.]

What's your name?

Most of it is probably something science hasn't explained yet. Or genetics and people are too unfamiliar with the concept to understand. [She hesitates.] Though that doesn't explain the talking, flying ponies.

[Those were a bit much.]

...I'm Eleanor Lamb.

[Considering the world that Nel comes from, the ponies were...par for the course, to be honest.]

I don't know. There are no harpies here. I can deal with anything after that.

[She held out her hand for the woman to take.]

I'm Nel Zelpher. And I apologize for overreacting.

Harpies...Bird women? [What.]

[Eleanor considers her hand for a moment before she hesitantly reaches out to shake it, obviously ready to throw herself away at a moment's need.]

It's...fine.

Yes, they're a common problem on my world. Especially closer to the city of Peterny. They seem to be everywhere sometimes. Although, the lizard-men are more prevalent.

We have nothing like that in Rapture. Just splicers...well, and fish.

What, exactly, is a splicer? [Well, she'd wanted to learn more about other planets, right? What better way than with someone who could give her first-hand details?]

Me. Well, most of them did it voluntarily. But it's the same difference. [Eleanor shrugs.] People who have had their genes spliced to give them additional abilities or powers.

[She holds up her hand, but stops herself from doing the obligatory 'fire demonstration' again.]

Like my fire.

[After talking to Fayt about their world, she understood what the girl was saying.]

I know someone who had something similar done to them... By their parents. It was...cruel. At least I knew what I was getting into when I allowed myself to be tattooed as much as I am.

Parents can be the cruelest of anyone. Mother tried to do things to me that would have destroyed me.

[She looks puzzled.]

Tattoos?

I wouldn't know anything about mothers. Mine died when I was a small child.

[She pointed to the tattoos on her thighs and arms, at least the ones that were visible.]

This is Runology. The tattoos allow me to tap into the power after many years of studying and testing.

I imagine in this situation, most people would tell you that is tragic, an they are sorry. But mothers, from my experience, are more trouble than they are worth.

[She leans forward, considering the tattoos. She wants to reach out and touch them but she stops herself.]

...and these give you powers.

Well, I'm not really sure how I feel about that. Mothers are just...there or not, from my experience. My best friend's mother also died when she was a young child and she was raised by her father. After my father died, Adray was like a father to me as well.

[She held out her hand so that Eleanor could see the tattoo on the back and touch it if she wanted.]

Well, I have to grasp onto the power by thinking about it and calling out the name of it, but yes.

Well, my mother was absolutely awful.

[Eleanor's answer was absent, as she tentatively reached out to trace a thin, pale finger over one of the tattoos, her eyes curious.]

...How do they work?

Keep in mind that I don't research the way the tattoos work, nor am I a Runology scholar. I am simply a Runologist. The tattoos are basically "commands" that have to be written down. It would be difficult to do that in a battle situation, so they are written onto my body and I am able to call upon the power of the command by calling out the name of the Runological symble I wish to use.

[Eleanor looks thoughtful for a moment.]

So, like a wizard in a story writing down a spell, except you...already have it. On you.

[Nel's just going to stare at you right now, Eleanor. Remember, it's not magic.] I'm not familiar with that analogy.
